Free Code Camp: Learn to Code While Helping Nonprofits

September 21, 2016
By Jarrod Whaley

Free Code Camp is an online learning community in which participants learn how to code while helping nonprofits at the same time. Through a series of targeted challenges, "campers" learn how to build Web server back-end infrastructure, front-end interfaces, database layers, and more. Once challenges have been completed, participants can use their new skills to help build real, production Web sites for nonprofits and thus gain valuable working experience for their résumés.

We love anything that teaches people how to code, but we are even more impressed with models in which the educational program meets the real-world needs of all those involved. In this case, nonprofits receive high-quality Web development time at no cost, and the students are both learning skills and achieving tangible results with them at the same time. If you're interested in learning how to code—or if you are working for a nonprofit which needs some Web development—we strongly encourage you to check out Free Code Camp.
