Nikki Grabill, a third grade teacher in North Carolina, has just won the WITN Teacher of the Week award! Grabill’s nominator described her as “an inspiration to all of her students and coworkers with her kind mannerisms and true love for her students.” With her goals to foster the love of learning and build confidence Grabill has started countless projects geared towards improving her student’s critical thinking and problem-solving abilities with hands-on activities.

One of her projects, the Oakwood Oases, was started by Grabill and her class, as they built a greenhouse, a chicken coup, and two separate garden stations for everyone in the school to use. She also get her students interested in the maker movement with her “Platform 9 and ¾” maker space for kids to build, make movies, and learn to code. Lastly, she has incorporated maker Mondays, tech Tuesdays, writer Wednesdays, and theater Thursdays into her curriculum to boost her student’s creativity and culture, as well as increasing STEM education. We love what Ms. Grabill is doing and encourage more teachers to implement programs like these into children’s education.
